George Stigler (1911-1991) won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sceinces in 1982 for his seminal studies of industrial structures, functioning of markets and causes and effects of public regulation.

He was the Charles R.Walgreen Distinguished Service Professor, Emeritus, of Economics at the University of Chicago. He also was the director of the Center for the Study of the Economy and the State.
